Scott Stieber & Don Myers

Old man on the corner
People passin' him by
Tin cup full of pencils
nobody wants to buy
sittin’ there
on Commerce and High

There's people watchin'
watchin' what you do
People watching
watching you doing what you do
walkin’ the dog
reading haiku

There’s painters workin’ in paint
Potters workin’ in clay
Farmers workin’ their fields
Sculptors workin’ clay,
They work in wood, wire,
tile, rock and even papier mache
(lord almighty, papier mache)

She says
"There's only 5 things better
than goin' to the hardware store
where people can help
you find what you're lookin' for
I counted 'em,
came up with 2 or 3 more

She says the water is runnin',
runnin' high down in the creek
She says the water is runnin',
runnin' high down in the creek
she says "You want my lovin'
get me there once a week"

Little Darlin', Little Darlin'
I'm down on my knees
Little Darlin', Little Darlin'
beggin' you please
She says "Are you a man or a mouse?"
All I want is some cheese

On Merry Christmas Lane
it's Christmas every day
On Merry Christmas Lane
it's Christmas every day
What their doin' up on High Street,
nobody wants to say

Be careful where you walk
drivers watch where you park
Be careful where you walk
Drivers, watch where you park
They'll be rollin' up the sidewalks
tonight just after dark

Ain’t nothin' on the level
Ain’t nothin’ on the square
ask any carpenter
who you find workin’ there
Old man on the corner
singin’ beware brother beware
